Durham Community Support Group began with a simple belief—that every newcomer deserves to feel at home. What started as a small network of volunteers helping families move into furnished homes has grown into a community movement built on compassion, dignity, and empowerment. Over the years, we’ve walked alongside countless individuals and families as they navigated housing, education, employment, and integration into Canadian life.
Our story is woven from their journeys, our partnerships, and the dedication of volunteers who believe in creating a community where everyone can thrive. Every act of kindness, every connection made, brings us closer to a future where belonging is not just a hope—it’s a reality.
We respectfully acknowledge that the Durham Community Support Group is located on the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, within the greater Williams Treaties territory. This land has been the home of Indigenous Peoples, including the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Anishinaabeg Nations, for thousands of years, and continues to be home to diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people today.
We are grateful for the enduring stewardship of the original caretakers of this land. As an organization supporting our community, we are committed to understanding our shared history, acknowledging the impacts of colonization, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation in our work.
